Free OCR is a great option for this task, as it performs well and is completely free to use. If you need to convert a page from a book into plain text, Free OCR can help. Simply connect your scanner and select it as the input in the Free OCR interface. The program will take care of the rest. After scanning and analyzing the document, Free OCR will display the result. You can make any necessary modifications, as the output may not always be perfect. Additionally, Free OCR can also convert text from pictures stored on your computer. Just select the image as input, and the program will do the rest. One limitation of Free OCR is that it does not currently support PDF files. Hopefully, this feature will be added in a future update.
